That Thamel and Those Activists
This happened when I had just completed my first year in medical school.
After about three week vacation, I returned to Kathmandu. Though it was not long, I felt like I was not here for several months. I found it very different even though it had not changed significantly. Since my second year at college was going to start after not more than a few days, I felt a need to go out so that I could get used to it again. I decided to go out with my friend who was very talkative and good enough to walk with. I did not notice the pollution of Kathmandu because I knew that I had to live with it. We directly entered a Restaurant in Thamel area.
It was not very hot outside because there was a lovely shadow of a tree. It felt more comfortable to sit inside the restaurant thought there were chairs and tables outside the hotel. Some tourists were sitting outside and laughing at their own talks. We were watching them enjoying silently. Within a few minutes, they went away from there and three Mongolian females came and sat there. We guessed probably they were tourists from China or somewhere with a Mongolian ethnicity. Then one of the persons in the restaurants asked us in a rude voice “What do you want?” (in Nepali). My friend replied in ruder voice without looking at him “Don’t you have menu?” He quickly went inside and brought a menu printed in a red paper and put it on our table. We looked at menu and he asked me to order. I felt difficult to choose a suitable order and asked him back. I also made it easier for him to select one by saying that my pocket is not hot enough to have a good one. He laughed at me and said “I like it. घाँटी हेरी हाड निल्नुपर्छ।"
